Natural Gas News - Market Update – December 2025

Natural Gas Prices
Natural gas futures trading started December strong with all but the Summer Forward Strip Average opening above $4.000/Dth. By mid-December, prices dipped as much as 74.0 cents before eventually recovering some of the losses by the end of the month. February 2026 jumped more than 40 cents over last week, up to $3.986/Dth. Likewise, the 12-month and seasonal strips were all up more than 25.0 cents week-over-week. January moved off the board Monday, December 29th, settling the month at $4.687/Dth.
Spot prices varied regionally throughout December, largely driven by weather-mediated demand. Henry Hub spot prices dropped to $3.310/Dth from the month’s high of $5.190/Dth. In contrast, Northeast spot prices have been marked by volatility, with monthly highs reaching as much as $25.00/Dth (Algonquin Citygate).
Natural Gas Supply and Demand Quick View
Natural gas storage totaled 3,413 Bcf as of Friday, December 19th, 2025, a net decrease of 166 Bcf from the prior week. Stocks were 129 Bcf less than last year at this time and 24 Bcf below the five-year average of 3,437 Bcf.

February settled Monday, December 29th at $3.986/Dth up 10.9 cents from Friday’s close at $3.877/Dth and up a substantial 41.5 cents from the prior week. January moved off the board Monday, December 29th, settling the month at $4.687/Dth.

The winter strip (NOV25-MAR26) settled Monday, December 29th at $4.012/Dth, up 47.9 cents from the prior week while the summer strip (APR26-OCT26) settled at $3.694/Dth, up 25.2 cents week-over-week.

CY26 settled Monday at $3.879/Dth, up 29.8 cents from the prior week.
CY27 settled Monday at $3.929/Dth up 10.3 cents from the prior week.
CY28 settled Monday at $3.712/Dth, up 5.2 cents from the prior week.
